Abundant Living

Eternal Life

John 3:16  For God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.

What does eternal life mean?

We have been taught all our life that Jesus came and died for our sins to give us eternal life so that we will not perish.  However, the truth is that everyone will live eternally.  Those who have received Jesus will live with Him eternally and those who have rejected Jesus will live eternally in hell.

Jesus came and died on Calvary for so much more that this.  He died not only to forgive your sins, but to bring you close to Him.  Jesus praying the night before His crucifixion said,  “And this is the way to have eternal life—to know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one You sent to earth” in John 17:3.  This verse is not talking about having an intellectual knowledge (or head knowledge) of God and Jesus Christ.  The word “know” throughout the scriptures is gnosko, which in the Greek means intercourse; this means having the most, intimate personal relationship that you can have.  Having a relationship with God is everlasting life.

The truth is that Jesus did not come just to save you from your sins so that you can go to heaven someday and live in blessing instead of the punishment of hell.  He also came to deliver you from this present evil world, Galatians 1:4: Jesus gave his life for our sins, just as God our Father planned, in order to rescue us from this evil world in which we live.  Jesus paid the price for your sins, so you wouldn’t have to.  He reconciled you back into relationship with the Father.  He loves you and desires to have a close, intimate, personal relationship with you.  He provided through the finished work at Calvary for you to have a quality of life here that is greater than what you could ever get through anything in this world.  Jesus said in John 10:10, “The thief (talking of Satan) comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).”  That is this life, right here and right now.

II Peter 1:3-4: According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

1.) Knowledge:  How well do you know God?

2.) Given us exceeding great and precious promises: the more we know God and study His Word, the more we are aware of His promises.

3.) Partakers of His nature: How? By knowing Him and His promises; by making Him our focus.

What is the result?  Life!  Ultimate peace, joy, and abundance of health, relationships, and prosperity in all things. This comes through having a personal, intimate relationship with Jesus.

If you have already accepted Jesus, you need to go beyond just having your sins forgiven and spend time developing a close, intimate relationship with Jesus and enter into that abundant life with the Father….life everlasting.

If you don’t know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, ask Him to come live in your heart and receive cleansing of all your sins and everything Jesus paid for at Calvary.  Please let me know if you have made that decision.

The Word is Life

The Holy Bible is God’s written word to us, His children.  All scripture was given by inspiration of the Holy Spirit.   II Timothy 3:16 NLT says, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.”  It is God’s handbook for our lives and when we read and meditate on God’s Word, it will change our life.

In 2003, I decided I wanted more out of my Christian life than what I had.  I had never set aside a dedicated time to read and study the Word of God, even though I really desired to.  I depended on going to church “to get a little” to keep me going.  I would move ahead one step but then slide back two steps.  I really was not living a victorious life.  Finally, I decided that I had had enough ! It was time for me to do something different.  I made a commitment to God to get out of bed early and study the Word and spend time with God.  That decision forever changed my life.

As I began to read the Bible and meditate on God’s Word, I began to grow and get revelation of the Word like I had never had before.  Hebrews 4:12 says “The Word of God is alive, powerful, and sharper that a two edged sword.”  As I meditated the living Word of God, I went from knowing about God to having a relationship with God.  He became real to me and as I put His Word into my heart, I began to hunger and thirst for more of God and more of His Word.

The Word of God became food for my soul and I needed it just as much as I needed food for my physical body.  I begin every day of my life in the Word of God and it has put a smile on my face and a bounce in my step.

I am confident that with Jesus Christ, I can do all things. I have learned who I am in Jesus Christ; the awesome price He paid and the inheritance I received through Him. I know that Jesus, who never knew sin was made to be sin for me so that I could be made the righteousness of God through Jesus. He paid the debt I couldn’t pay and He reconciled me to my Heavenly Father.

This was what I had searched for all my life! I had tried to find it through the world’s way, trying everything and nothing satisfying. The reason of that is because we were created to have fellowship with God. Adam and Eve walked with God in the Garden of Eden in the cool of the day until Satan deceived them and they ate from the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and their eyes were opened. They were separated from fellowship with God and it was passed onto us through their sin. Nothing or no person will ever satisfy that emptiness in our soul! That emptiness…that hole in our soul will not be filled until we are reconciled to God and spend time fellowshipping with Him and having relationship with Him.

In Joshua 1:8 AMP, God told Joshua, “This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it.  For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success.”

Begin to study the Word of God daily and you will discover for yourself the life changing power of God’s Holy Word.

If you have never accepted Jesus as your Lord and your Savior, that is where you need to start. Just pray a simple prayer like, “Jesus, I receive You now as my Savior and I make you the Lord of my life. I receive everything you did for me at Calvary. Come into my heart and live Your life through me.”

If you prayed this prayer, please let me know so I can pray for you and stand with you. I would like to help you grow in the Love and Knowledge of Jesus Christ. You can contact me @ tcook.ilovejesus@gmail.com.
